Student Leadership Council
The Student Leadership Council at St. Ignatius School is different from a traditional student council. No elections are held, and students do not vote for offices. Instead, ALL interested 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students have a chance to participate and practice leadership skills.
For 2005-06, Student Leadership meets every other Friday at 7:45 A.M. in the third grade room. Activities and projects also require occasional after-school time. Students coordinate outreach projects, organize a social project, and manage the school store. Students agree that the Council is a great way to get involved in the school.
Service projects include:
-
Monthly can and bottle drive. Funds from the drive are donated to help educate impoverished students, usually in a Latin American country
-
Letter-writing to homebound parishioners of St. Ignatius Parish
-
Pennies for the Poor collection in each classroom. Proceeds go to the Downtown Chapel of St. Vincent de Paul
Social projects include:
-
Helping with and suggesting dress-up themes for Catholic Schools Week, January 30-February 3, 2006
-
Planning, organizing, publicizing, and staging a spring Talent Show on May 19, 2006
