Design-an-Ad
One day a year, businesses reserve advertising space in The Oregonian and then turn the design of the ads over to young, creative minds—students from all over the state! Kids use their imaginations and design skills to develop hand-drawn newspaper ads that promote advertiser’s products and services. The Oregonian gathers all the ads and then present them to the advertisers. Each advertiser then chooses the student ad(s) they want to represent them in the paper. Besides nine student cash prizes, all the selected ads are published in the Oregonian and also posted on OregonLive.com.
St. Ignatius 4-8th graders entered the second annual contest in 2004 and the artwork of three students were selected and printed in the paper. In 2005, St. Ignatius had a cash prize winner! The contest typically begins in March and the special issue is printed in May. Though the submitted originals cannot be returned, Team Art Lit makes copies of the artwork for the student portfolios.
