Regional Arts Culture Council
In recent years St. Ignatius has been fortunate to be able to work with the Regional Arts and Culture Council and Young Audiences to have artists at work in our school each spring. The majority of this program has been funded each year through a grant that our development director secures. Students have been exposed to various media like ceramics, printmaking and collage. One year, students studied murals and an entry-hall mural with input from every student was drawn and painted. Another year, students made fused glass creations and the upper grade students actually designed and made a set of fused class panels that hang above the front entry doors of the school.
Obo Addy’s Okroprong came and gave a school performance of traditional music from Ghana, followed by a drumming workshop for each class. Every student had an African drum with which to play and explore African rhythms. It was great fun! This special artistic cultural experience is one we are pleased to be able to offer our students each year.
