Fifth Grade! Wow! What a place to be!
The Pirate Ship has set sail!
We’re off to loot and plunder as much knowledge
as possible! (But in our most Christian way!)

During this year, we’ll be adding much knowledge to our Font!
In Religion, our main study will focus on the Sacraments of the Church, but also what it means to be a Christian as a fifth-grader. We’ll study the concepts in Steps to Respect and Fully Alive. Our outreach project is to help with the recycling of Cans and Bottles. This money goes to several worthy causes, including a child in Venezuela.

In Math, we’ll build on our foundation by multiplying and dividing by two digits, regrouping with mixed numerals, and even adding exponents and beginning algebra to our repertoire.

In Language Arts, we’ll increase our writing, grammar, and reading skills. In addition to our reading book, we study in novel groups to read and discuss some great literature. This year is the first year we are invited to join Book Club and participate in the Battle of the Books with the Holy Family School fifth-graders.

In Science, we’ll be studying animals and body systems, genetic traits and adaptation to the environment, the Solar System, stars and galaxies. We’ll learn about the properties of matter and be introduced to the Periodic Table. We’ll study the Earth’s structure and volcanoes and earthquakes.

In Social Studies, we deepen our map skills and study the history and geography of the United States. We learn about the exciting Age of Exploration and its effect on society even today. We live through the founding of the colonies and study the people and events of the American Revolution.

So, as you see, we are busy and excited in the Fifth Grade Room.
